FAST Process‎ > ‎

Overview

Build projects around motivated individuals.
Give them the environment and support they need,
and trust them to get the job done.

The goal of FAST Agile™ is to gain control of your project and achieve hyper-productivity by TRUSTING your developers to do the right thing at the right time and letting them SELF-ORGANIZE.

So how to avoid chaos and anarchy? FAST was inspired by Open Space Technology (OST) as a proven mechanism for self-organization at scale is at the heart of the FAST framework. Open Space Technology provides just enough structure to allow natural leadership to emerge while allowing innovation to flourish.

WARNING - unless you understand Open Space Technology, much of FAST Agile™ may confuse you and leave with a feeling of disbelief. Please spend some time to read up on Open Space Technology and how it's use of self-organization enables hyper-productivity.

FAST Agile™ Elevator Pitch

You may begin a FAST project by merging all your development teams working on the same project into one tribe. Initially, these teams stay together inside this tribe as clans. All the features of the project are maintained and tracked visually in a Story Map which forms the basis for the tribe's product backlog.

The entire tribe meets on cadence where each clan demonstrates working software and their delta to the product since the last meeting. This is followed by an Open Space style marketplace where any team member may pull work from the backlog and announce what will they plan to do in the next iteration. At the end of the marketplace, developers may stay with their clan or work with another clan if that makes more sense. We call this flex-teaming.

FAST enables natural leadership, and a natural movement of resources and skill to move to where it is most needed.
